Welcome to the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging and Department of Geriatrics, located on the campus of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging and Department of Geriatrics was made possible through a $28.8 million gift from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. The Institute and Department at UAMS recognizes the challenge of a 21st Century society that is seeking to accommodate an ever-increasing number of older Americans. People in the United States are living longer than ever before, with the average American expected to live approximately 80 years. As the American population continues to live longer, the focus of health care must shift from merely keeping people alive longer to making those later years healthier and more productive. In other words, the focus is not adding years to life; rather, it’s adding life to years. Our mission is "to deliver quality health care to older persons, conduct research on aging and age-related diseases, provide educational programs on aging for health care professionals and the public, and to influence public policy on aging issues." In its quest to deliver world-class clinical care, research, and educational programs, the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging employs the following strategies and partnerships:
